Brand-wide ownership notes

Renault's reputation for electrical trouble is older than these cars and the Mégane III is better than the ones that earned it. The 1.5 dCi is the engine to know: it's shared with Nissan, it's everywhere, and it's economical to the point of absurdity provided the injectors have been looked after. What still lets these down is the interior electronics and a key card system that fails in its own particular way.

Chassis

ChassisBodyYearsCharacter
IIIhatchback2008–2016Comfortable, economical and far better made than Renault's older reputation would have you believe.
X85hatchback2005–2014A comfortable supermini that rides better than most of its rivals and asks very little in return. The 1.5 dCi in particular returns economy that still looks good today.
