Car Model Guide/ Coverage

Coverage

What is in the database today, stated plainly. Coverage is the moat and it is slow to build — depth on a handful of chassis is defensible, while a thin row for four thousand cars is indistinguishable from every existing car database.

Known gaps in what is published

  • Prices are illustrative. Generated from a documented placeholder model, not sourced from the market. This is the single largest gap — see methodology.
  • One region only. Central EU, in euro. The data model carries region on every price record, so adding markets is data entry rather than a migration, but nothing else is populated yet.
  • Market availability varied. Several variants were not sold in every country, and some markets used different badges for the same engine. Availability is noted per variant, but the reliable check is always the engine code on the block.
  • Trim levels are not modelled. M Sport, sport seats and options affect price and are handled as price adjustments rather than as separate entities.
  • No M-specific chassis pages. The E9x M3 is modelled as a variant of its chassis rather than as its own generation, which understates how different a car it is to own.

Planned

Phase 2

  • Audi B7 / B8 A4 and S4
  • Mercedes W204 C-Class
  • Mercedes W211 E-Class
  • VW Mk5 / Mk6 Golf
  • Toyota and Lexus 2000s sixes
  • Honda Accord / Civic 2000s

Phase 3

  • Region switching (UK, PL, DE)
  • Real price pipeline with sample sizes
  • Printable inspection sheets
  • Best-buy recommendations by budget and reliability

Phase 4

  • Contributor authoring workflow
  • Optional accounts for cross-device sync
  • Coverage expansion beyond enthusiast cross-shop sets

Phase 2 is chosen for cross-shopping rather than popularity: those are the cars people actually compare against an E9x, and comparison only becomes useful once both sides exist.
