Likely spend is the mid cost of every issue rated common or universal, added together, what an unmaintained example owes over the next few years, not a prediction for any one car. Worst case if everything here failed at once is €6,900, which isn't a realistic scenario but is a useful ceiling.

Cooling

Coolant loss and cylinder head cracking (early 1.0)M1DA 1.0 EcoBoost€1,500–€4,000
Coolant vanishing without a visible leak, the temperature gauge moving under load, and at worst overheating and head damage. Early engines used a coolant hose and thermostat arrangement that could fail and let the engine overheat, and a cracked cylinder head is the worst outcome. Ford addressed it with updated parts and service actions, so which parts are fitted matters more than the mileage.
Check: Check the coolant level and look for residue in the expansion tank, then ask directly whether the coolant recall or upgrade work has been carried out on this car.
Later parts: Updated coolant hose and thermostat parts under Ford service actions

Transmission

Shuddering as the car pulls away, jerky low-speed shifts, and a warning or a refusal to select a gear in later stages. The dry dual-clutch unit fitted to automatic cars wears its clutch pack and its control module, and both were the subject of extended warranty and service programmes. Manual cars are unaffected, so this only matters if the car in front of you is an automatic.
Check: On an automatic, drive slowly through a car park feeling for shudder as it takes up drive, then ask what clutch or module work has been done. On a manual there's nothing here to check.

Turbo & intake

Carbon buildup on intake valvesdirect injection€400–€700
Rough cold idle, slow throttle response, misfires, gradual loss of low-end response. Direct injection puts no fuel over the intake valves, so crankcase vapour deposits bake on undisturbed.
Check: Not visible without a borescope. Treat it as a service item that's due unless there's a receipt. It's not a fault, it's an unbudgeted maintenance cost.

How to read this

Every issue is authored once against the part that actually carries it: the engine, the gearbox, the chassis or a shared component, and inherited by every variant that has that part. The badge next to each issue says where it comes from, so you can tell an M1DA problem from an E9x problem.

Evidence tiers. Manufacturer means a recall, technical bulletin or revised part number. Documented means workshop data or multiple independent sources. Reported means owner consensus with no hard confirmation, and never sets a risk level on its own.
