Pump-düse injector loom and injector wear

Overview
Pump-düse injector loom and injector wear is a occasional fault recorded against BKD at engine level, typically from 120–250k km. It shows up as a cold misfire or judder, the engine seeming to run on three cylinders when cold, lumpy idle and a misfire warning that often clears as it warms. Where it's documented, the repair runs €150–€900 (€150–400 for a loom; recon injectors from €200 each, costs dated 2026-07), and it can be partly checked before you buy. 2 variants across 2 chassis in this database inherit it.
What happens
Symptom. A cold misfire or judder, the engine seeming to run on three cylinders when cold, lumpy idle and a misfire warning that often clears as it warms.
Cause. Most often the injector wiring loom chafes through from engine vibration and gives an intermittent signal; separately the pump-düse unit injectors themselves wear. Diagnose which before spending.
How to check it
Cold start
Start it cold and feel for a stumble, then read the injector quantity-deviation values on a diagnostic to find the offending cylinder; inspect the loom for chafing.
You get one. If the engine is warm when you arrive, come back another day.
Every variant that carries this
| Variant | Chassis | Body | Years | Risk | Good buy | Cost as % of good buy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2.0 TDI BKD | 8P | hatchback | 2003–2008 | R3 | €3,300 | 16% |
| 2.0 TDI BKD | 8PA | hatchback | 2004–2008 | R3 | €3,400 | 15% |
The last column is the point. The same repair is an inconvenience on one variant and a reason to scrap the car on another. A failure costing a quarter of the vehicle's value changes the purchase decision regardless of how rare it is.
