Haldex coupling wear and pump failure
Attaches to PQ35-SUV at chassis level · Drivetrain · carried by 5 variants across 2 chassis
Overview
Haldex coupling wear and pump failure is a common fault recorded against PQ35-SUV at chassis level, typically from 80–160k km. It shows up as four-wheel drive that no longer engages, a warning light, or a shudder on full lock in a tight turn. Where it's documented, the repair runs €150–€1,400 (€150–250 for the oil and filter that prevent it; pump or clutch pack at the dear end, costs dated 2026-07), and it can be partly checked before you buy. 5 variants across 2 chassis in this database inherit it.
What happens
Symptom. Four-wheel drive that no longer engages, a warning light, or a shudder on full lock in a tight turn.
Cause. The coupling depends on clean oil and a working pump filter, and the service is short, cheap and widely skipped. Debris then blocks the filter, the pump loses pressure and the clutch pack suffers.
How to check it
Paperwork
Ask when the Haldex oil and filter were last changed and get the date in writing. On the drive, turn the car slowly on full lock in both directions and feel for binding or shudder.
On these cars the folder is most of the value.

The last column is the point. The same repair is an inconvenience on one variant and a reason to scrap the car on another. A failure costing a quarter of the vehicle's value changes the purchase decision regardless of how rare it is.
