Brand-wide ownership notes
Toyota's reputation in this period is mostly deserved, and the petrol cars in particular ask for very little beyond oil and tyres. The diesels are the exception worth knowing about, because the 2.2 D-4D had a genuine head problem that Toyota extended warranties to cover in several markets. So the buying rule inverts the German one. Here the petrol is the safe choice and the diesel is the one that needs paperwork. Parts are cheap and the dealer network is dense.
