2.0 i-VTEC R20A
A chain-driven port-injected four that asks for oil and very little else. There's no turbo, no particulate filter and no high-pressure fuel pump, which is why these run to very high mileage without drama.
Overview

Known issues, ranked by expected cost
Faults recorded against this engine, its components and its chassis, ranked by likelihood × repair cost. Costs are indicative ranges with a stated labour basis.
Ranked by probability × repair cost, not by how loudly a failure is discussed. Inherited from the engine, gearbox, chassis and shared components, each written once.
Pre-purchase inspection

Mileage and servicing
What the odometer does and doesn't tell you here, plus the service items whose neglect causes the expensive failures above.
The R20A runs to very high mileage on nothing more than oil, so the odometer matters far less than the service record. A 250,000 km car with a stamped book is a sound buy.
| Service item | Interval | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Engine oil and filter Ordinary protection for an engine that asks for little else. | 15,000 km or annually | €90–140 |
| Rear differential fluid Honda's dual-pump system needs its own fluid, and neglect makes it groan. | every 40,000–60,000 km | €80–140 |

United States vs Europe
1 EUR = 1.08 USD ·US figures are the EU band converted at a stated rate. No US market differential is modelled: we hold no sourced US asking prices, and inventing one would be worse than saying so. What the comparison does show for real is availability. Most of this range was never sold in the US.
