Attaches to E8X at chassis level · Electrical · carried by 38 variants across 4 chassis
Overview
Water ingress and footwell module damage is a common fault recorded against E8X at chassis level, typically from 60–200k km. It shows up as damp or soaked front carpets, a musty smell and fogged windows, and, when water reaches the footwell electronics, failed lights, windows or indicators. Where it's documented, the repair runs €0–€1,200 (€0 to clear drains; €400–1,200 if a soaked module needs replacing and coding, costs dated 2026-07), and it can be checked before you buy. 38 variants across 4 chassis in this database inherit it.
What happens
Symptom. Damp or soaked front carpets, a musty smell and fogged windows, and, when water reaches the footwell electronics, failed lights, windows or indicators.
Cause. Most often the bulkhead scuttle drains block by the pollen filter and overflow into the cabin; perished door membranes and tailgate seals can add to it. Water then attacks the footwell module.
How to check it
Static checks
Lift the front and rear carpets and press for damp. Check the boot and spare-wheel well for standing water, and confirm the scuttle drains near the pollen filter are clear.
Engine off, ideally on a lift.

The last column is the point. The same repair is an inconvenience on one variant and a reason to scrap the car on another. A failure costing a quarter of the vehicle's value changes the purchase decision regardless of how rare it is.
