DCT mechatronic and clutch wear

Attaches to MDCT at gearbox level · Transmission · carried by 6 variants across 3 chassis

Overview

DCT mechatronic and clutch wear is a occasional fault recorded against MDCT at gearbox level, typically from 90–180k km. It shows up as jerky low-speed shifts, clutch adaptation faults, refusal to engage a gear, drivetrain warnings. Where it's documented, the repair runs €1,500–€4,500 (fluid and adaptation at the low end, mechatronic or clutch pack at the high end, costs dated 2026-07), and it can be partly checked before you buy. 6 variants across 3 chassis in this database inherit it.

What happens

Symptom. Jerky low-speed shifts, clutch adaptation faults, refusal to engage a gear, drivetrain warnings.

Cause. The dual-clutch unit's clutch packs wear and the mechatronic unit's electronics and solenoids fail. Fluid service is required and often skipped.

How to check it

On the drive

Drive it in traffic, not just on an open road. Low-speed crawling is where a tired DCT shows itself. Check the fluid service history; it needs doing roughly every 60,000 km.

Include low-speed manoeuvring, not just an open road.

The last column is the point. The same repair is an inconvenience on one variant and a reason to scrap the car on another. A failure costing a quarter of the vehicle's value changes the purchase decision regardless of how rare it is.
