The 2.2 SD4 is the DW12 diesel version of the Land Rover Freelander 2 SUV (L359), sold 2010–2014 with 190 PS and manual or automatic. Demands diligence at level 3. A whine from the rear that changes with speed rather than with engine revs, four-wheel drive dropping out, or a warning light. The differential and the coupling both depend on oil changes that were never scheduled, and this is a heavy car that gets used off tarmac. Once the oil is spent the bearings and the clutch pack wear quickly.
Check: Drive at a steady 60 to 80 km/h with the window down and listen for a whine that tracks road speed. Ask for the differential and Haldex oil records, and treat a car with neither as carrying the cost.

Warning light, limp mode, oil level rising above the maximum mark from fuel dilution. The filter needs sustained hot running to regenerate. A car used for short urban trips never completes a regeneration cycle.
Check: Read the DPF soot load and the distance since the last regeneration on a scan tool, and check the engine oil level and smell it for diesel. Ask what the car was used for. A short-trip city diesel is the wrong car regardless of mileage.

What that meansNo US band exists to compare. Any car you find there's a private import, parts and specialist knowledge are thinner, and the price says more about import cost than about the market.

The extra 30 PS makes a real difference in a car this heavy, and the stop-start system that came with it is the only new thing to check. Everything else follows the TD4, meaning the rear differential and the Haldex coupling decide whether ownership is reasonable or painful. Ask for oil-change receipts on both and read them carefully. So budget for suspension and bushes past 150,000 km, because this is a heavy car and the parts carry a Land Rover price.
