2.0 D-4D 1AD-FTV
The smaller of the two Toyota diesels and the safer one. It avoids the head trouble of its 2.2 sibling, so what's left is ordinary modern-diesel care: the particulate filter, the EGR and the turbo actuator.
Overview
The 2.0 D-4D is the 1AD-FTV diesel version of the Toyota Avensis wagon (T27 Tourer), sold 2009–2015 with 126 PS and manual_6. Manageable at level 2. It avoids the head trouble of the 2.2, so what's left is ordinary modern-diesel care around the filter, the EGR and the turbo. 12 failure modes are recorded against its engine, gearbox, chassis and shared components. Prices on this page are illustrative placeholders rather than a sourced market sample. See the methodology for how the bands are derived.

Faults recorded against this engine, its components and its chassis, ranked by likelihood × repair cost. Costs are indicative ranges with a stated labour basis.

Pre-purchase inspection
The same issue records, reordered into the sequence you can actually check them in: cold start, static, drive, paperwork.
1Static checksEngine off, ideally on a lift.
2On the driveInclude low-speed manoeuvring, not just an open road.

Mileage and servicing
What the odometer does and doesn't tell you here, plus the service items whose neglect causes the expensive failures above.
Journey history matters most. A car that only ever did short trips will have a stressed filter and a coked EGR whatever the odometer says.
| Service item | Interval | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| DPF regeneration Short-trip use blocks the filter | regular longer runs | €400–1,100 if blocked |
| EGR cleaning Carbon builds up on short-run cars | as it fouls | €200–450 |
| Engine oil Turbo and emissions life follow oil quality | on time, correct spec | €80–130 |

United States vs Europe
1 EUR = 1.08 USD ·US figures are the EU band converted at a stated rate. No US market differential is modelled: we hold no sourced US asking prices, and inventing one would be worse than saying so. What the comparison does show for real is availability. Most of this range was never sold in the US.
