Warning light, limp mode, oil level rising above the maximum mark from fuel dilution. The filter needs sustained hot running to regenerate. A car used for short urban trips never completes a regeneration cycle.
Check: Read the DPF soot load and the distance since the last regeneration on a scan tool, and check the engine oil level and smell it for diesel. Ask what the car was used for. A short-trip city diesel is the wrong car regardless of mileage.

Bubbling paint above the rear arches, rust around the tailgate handle and the lower edges of the doors. The shell was built to a price and the arch seams trap salt and moisture. Once it shows through the paint the repair is a bodyshop job, and on a car at this value that decides whether it's worth keeping.
Check: Look along the rear arches in good light and run your hand inside the lip. Bubbling in the paint means the metal underneath has already gone, so judge the car on this before anything mechanical.

This engine returns economy that still embarrasses modern petrols, and it's the same unit Opel sold as the 1.3 CDTI, so parts and knowledge are everywhere. The catch is that a city car with a particulate filter is a mismatch, and blocked filters and sticking turbo vanes are what owners report. Check for a warning light history and ask whether the filter has ever been replaced. So take the petrol if your journeys are short, since the fuel saving won't cover a filter.
