Variable-vane turbo actuator sticking
Attaches to vnt-turbo at component level · Turbo & intake · carried by 42 variants across 8 chassis
Overview
Variable-vane turbo actuator sticking is a common fault recorded against vnt-turbo at component level, typically from 130–250k km. It shows up as sudden loss of power on a hard pull, limp mode that clears on restart, underboost or overboost codes. Where it's documented, the repair runs €400–€1,200 (actuator and clean at the low end, turbo replacement at the high end, costs dated 2026-07), and it can be checked before you buy. 42 variants across 8 chassis in this database inherit it.
What happens
Symptom. Sudden loss of power on a hard pull, limp mode that clears on restart, underboost or overboost codes.
Cause. Soot binds the variable vanes or the actuator linkage seizes.
How to check it
On the drive
Do a full-throttle pull in third from 1,500 rpm to the limiter. Hesitation or a drop into limp mode is this fault. Do this twice.
Include low-speed manoeuvring, not just an open road.

The last column is the point. The same repair is an inconvenience on one variant and a reason to scrap the car on another. A failure costing a quarter of the vehicle's value changes the purchase decision regardless of how rare it is.
